Crafting Policies and Programs for Women in the Agriculture Sector

This Policy Note revisits the country's efforts to achieve gender equality, focusing on the rural and agriculture sector. Among others, it finds that women occupy merely 26 percent of the agricultural employment in the country. They also tend to be involved in weeding and harvesting jobs, which are known to be less profitable than men's traditional jobs in agriculture, such as plowing. To address these issues, this study recommends the promotion of social enterprises in rural and agricultural areas to provide livelihoods and income-generating opportunities for women and other marginalized groups in poor communities. It also urges the government to beef up researches on the impact of climate change on rural women to provide more convincing policy narratives.
