Competition in Philippine Telecommunications: A Survey of Critical Issues


Telecommunication liberalization in the Philippines has produced a number of benefits as higher teledensity, greater variety of services, and to some extent lower prices. However, simply relaxing market entry restrictions have proven insufficient in creating a truly competitive environment. This paper looks at the state of competition in Philippine telecommunications market and discusses the various threats to the competitive process in the industry. The paper also suggests areas for intervention from the standpoint of competition policy.
