ASKI: Case Study of a Philippine Microfinance Institution


This paper gives the history and current profile of ASKI, which stands for Alalay Sa Kaunlaran sa Gitnang Luzon, a non-profit social service corporation in the Philippines. It began microfinance lending in 1987 by granting non-collateral loans to borrowers who formed themselves into mutual guarantee groups of 5-7 individuals. The document provides details of: * Client profiles, products and services, delivery methodologies, * Delinquency management, * Operational and financial performance, revenues and expenses, including 30 tables, * Resource mobilisation efforts, * Corporate governance and institutional development including management roles and responsibilities, management processes, and human resource management. The author finally outlines future plans for expanding services to other provinces in the Philippines.
