Captures the performance of 45 MFIs surveyed using a data collection tool developed by MIX based on the following indicators -- outreach, financing structure, revenue and profitability, productivity and risk, and liquidity. Indicators show significant success in the operations of MFIs surveyed. This can be attributed primarily to well-defined policy and regulatory architecture implemented by government. Challenges still abound though, including the following: policy reversal (from market-oriented to directed credit), reduction of costs of MFIs, maintaining healthy loan protfolio, tapping commercial lenders for NGOs engaged in microfinance and encouraging RBs to further reach down to the poorer segment, but on a cost-efficient and profitable basis
