9th Annual Public Policy Conference - Green and Digital: Managing the Twin Transition toward Sustainable Development

The 9th Annual Public Policy Conference (APPC), which is the highlight of the Development Policy Research Month (DPRM), is organized by the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) with support from the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) – Andrew L. Tan Center for Tourism and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

The APPC will be held on September 19, 2023, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm at the AIM Conference Center in Makati City and via Zoom. The event consists of four plenary sessions featuring experts and champions in digital transformation and green transition. The conference will delve into how developing countries like the Philippines can effectively implement “Going Green and Digital for a More Sustainable, Inclusive, and Prosperous Future for All”, this year’s DPRM theme, by offering evidence-based insights and perspectives.

The first APPC session, “Twin Transition: Concept, Challenges, and Prospects”, will delve into the interplay of digital technologies and green transition and define the dual transformation and its global economic impact. The second session, “Human Capital Development in the Dual Transition”, will explore how digital technology and going green can reshape education, training, social protection, and employment and address the challenges for the Philippines’ human capital growth. The third session, “Reducing the Disruptions to Trade and Industry”, will assess how the twin transition affects trade and industry policies and propose strategies for improved industrial performance. Finally, the fourth session, “Opportunities and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in a World of Dual Transformation”, will tackle the role of artificial intelligence in green and digital evolution, its ethical issues, social impact, and governmental adoption.

Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan of the National Economic and Development Authority will be the keynote speaker, while PIDS President Aniceto Orbeta Jr., AIM President and Dean Jikyeong Kang, and Department of Energy Secretary Raphael Perpetuo Lotilla will provide their messages.

The various sessions will be headlined by distinguished foreign and local scholars, government officials, and experts from international organizations and the private sector.
