This paper looked into the socioeconomic and health conditions of households in the vicinity of the sanitary landfill of Bayawan City, Negros Oriental through a self-reported approach. A universal sampling was the target in getting the number of respondents when they were available during the period that was allocated for the household survey. A Total of 48 households were covered, with either the husbands or wives interviewed, because they consented to participate in the study. The results of 2010 baseline survey were compared with those of the current survey which show some signs of improvement in the socioeconomic condition and sanitation practices of these households. They have generally become positive to the existence of the sanitary landfill compared to the years that this was still newly established because of its relevance in the current management of waste in the city. There were no self-reported indications of the negative health impact of the sanitary landfill but the respondents hoped to enjoy some benefits from its by-products like the vermicompost. Thus, it is recommended that vermicompost has to be made available to the nearby residents, if feasible, for application on their vegetable gardens and farms after its effectiveness has been demonstrated by the Waste Management of Ecology Center.
