The Landscape of Climate and Disaster Risk Insurance (CDRI) in South and Southeast Asia and Oceania

This paper assesses the status of Climate and Disaster Risk Insurance and financing in 22 countries in South and Southeast Asia and Oceania. Assessment is made from various perspectives such as analysis of the existing government policy frameworks around adaptation, management, and financing of risks that emerge from climate change and disasters; assessment of existing CDRI solutions in the countries reviewed, the nature of the products, and potential multipliers to scale up inclusive insurances that target the poor, vulnerable, and marginalized population groups; assessment of challenges in terms of the distribution and capacity of insurers in the region; use of technology in CDRI, especially in client-facing solutions; and the role of international and regional partnership platforms for knowledge management to promote CDRI.
