Central Philippine University (CPU), located in Jaro, Iloilo City, is the first Baptist university and the second university established by Americans in Asia.

Founded in 1905 as the Jaro Industrial School, CPU was the first school in the Philippines to integrate industrial education with Christian teachings. It also pioneered the country’s first student government, originally called the Jaro Industrial School Republic, now the CPU Republic.

To meet the growing demand for education,CPU pened a junior college in 1923, and became the Central Philippine College. A senior college followed in 1936, and by 1940, it offered degrees in Arts, Science, Education, Theology, and Religious Education.

Today, CPU is recognized for academic excellence, earning certifications and consistently ranking among the top universities in the region.

In 2024, CPU was recognized as SERP-P’s top publications contributor.

Dr. Ernest Howard B. Dagohoy currently serves as the president of CPU.
