Geared to address the contribution of the sector to the general economy, the paper first assesses the deficit of the public enterprise sector and then relates this to the overall deficit of the national government. It then provides an overview of the macroeconomic role and impact of public enterprises in the Philippines. Moreover, the public enterprise performance is analyzed in terms of financial profitability and factor productivity.
