Key Issues in Regulation and Supervision of Credit Co-operatives

The article gives examples of regulation from the Philippines, Guatemala, Honduras, Brazil and Peru. It recommends standard definitions and probable changes in the law, both backed up by technical assistance: * deposit takers should be regulated as banks * affinity and intermediate co-operatives should report financial statements based on standardised accounts and external audits * small credit co-operatives would not be regulated unless they more actively promoted deposit taking
