The Legal System and the Economy

The paper tackles the impact of a country’s legal system on the performance of its economy. It compares the performance of common law systems and civil law systems and points to studies showing that the first kind performs better than the latter. As to whether the Philippines should adopt the common law system, the author recommends that a study be done on whether the integrity of the judicial system has improved to the point that it is already practical to make the shift.
