CLSU 2000-13: Assessment of Environmental Consciousness and Attitudes of Students in Central Luzon State University, Muñoz, Nueva Ecija

This study aimed to determine the level of environmental awareness, attitude, and practices of the students of the Central Luzon State University. The study also tried to establish the relationship between the level of environmental consciousness and environmental attitude; and the existing awareness of the students on the environmental programs in the campus. A questionnaire was used in gathering data from students in eight colleges of CLSU. Responses from undergraduate and graduate students were compared. Results revealed that students had a high level of environmental consciousness on all the topics included, namely: deforestation, soil erosion, pollution, population, global warming, coral reefs and agroecosystem. Correlation analysis showed a highly significant correlation between the students’ level of environmental consciousness and their attitude toward the environment. Graduate students had significantly higher level of environmental consciousness and more favorable attitude toward the environment than the undergraduate students. The excessive use of plastic products was the only practice of students found to contribute to environmental degradation. Most of the students were aware of the different environmental programs implemented on campus.
