Availing of an opportunity is difficult and oftentimes suboptimal, if not unsuccessful, due to the absence of a scientific and efficient technique that may be used in this endeavor. This research proposes an opportunity analysis technique utilizing the framework of the non-conformance analysis tree developed by the author for weakness or threat.
The technique is based on observations of opportunity procurement practices of various organizations, two of which have been documented in this research. The proposed technique, dubbed as the System Opportunity Analysis Tree, was drafted resulting to a procedural framework comprised of:
1. Opportunity trunk specification
2. Objectives root definition
3. Advantage and disadvantage stem identification
4. Opportunity tree valuation
The draft technique was test-run in a manufacturing organization and then modified to improve its effectiveness. The modified technique was subjected to an experiment using two control and two experimental groups. The result is the final form of the opportunity analysis tree which is expected to make opportunity analysis more rewarding.
