Bridging the Normative-Empirical Ethical Theory Split in Business Ethics Research

The lack of a ‘cohesive research culture’ in business ethics has been observed by a number of scholars. One of the reasons for the lack of a definite theoretical framework in conducting the research is the split between normative ethical theories and empirical ethical theories. This paper proposes a synthesis of the two theories following a Kantian framework. Unfolding the Kantian perspective on this issue involves an understanding of the issue and an understanding of both the nature of philosophical/theological research from which the normative theories are sourced and the nature of social sciences/management science research from which the empirical theories are based.
