This paper discusses the importance of land use planning in attaining an environmentally sound and sustainable development of local government units. It presents the framework in the formulation of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan – objectives and information requirements, the relationship of the Municipal Comprehensive Use Plan to the hierarchy of plans in the Philippines, and the comprehensive land use planning process.
The paper also outlines the standard procedure in formulating a land use planning with the watershed as the planning unit.
