In pursuit of sustainability, the balancing and optimization of the various demands on the coastal area prods the discussion on coastal area planning or, as known in the country, coastal zone planning and management. More than this, however, the article presents the newer concept of bay region planning or Integrated Coastal Resources Management (ICRM) and how its plans have more sustainable impacts. Considered as a variant of regional planning, the ICRM planning process and strategies, and some selected tools and techniques, are discussed in detail.
