The Psychological Dimensions of Development: Implications for Policy

The paper explores different theories of motivation and personality as they may relate to social and economic change. That economic development has much more to do with man’s attitude and personal resources than conditions in the environment is the principle that underpins these theories. The paper settles on David McClelland’s The Achieving Society which hypothesizes that a society with a generally high level of n Achievement will produce more energetic entrepreneurs who, in turn, will drive economic development.
