Socio-Spatial Structure of the Colonial Third World City: The Case of Manila, Philippines


The evolution of the socio-spatial structure of Third World countries is analyzed. Highlighting the case of Manila, the paper describes the general patterns of the changes in social structures and urban forms. It also identifies some of the surviving effects of such colonial experience – social traits, institutions, and artifacts – that seem to underlie some of the urban problems of today.
