Users’ Perceptions of Tricycle Services: The Case of Barangay Batasan Hills, Quezon City

Despite the presence of a nationally guided tricycle operation policy in the Philippines, it was found that there are still issues associated with tricycle service that need to be addressed and needs further study. To this end, addressing these issues may likely result into better integration of tricycles in urban areas; moreover, better integration towards other transport modes will create a more seamless transport system for the satisfaction of its users and shall be an effective enabler of national and local development. Due to an observed lack of literature meant to study and capture the satisfaction of the tricycle users, analytical models meant to determine trends and patterns related to user perception has been utilized in this facet of transportation planning; assessing service quality of different transport modes, revealing problems and determining potentials as well. With minimal studies discussing how user perception helps improve our ability to assess tricycle services, this study seeks to evaluate as well as identify ways of addressing the issues in tricycle operations, and identify their causes through user perception.
The study seeks to expand our understanding on tricycle service as it impacts users through user perception as means of assessment. The objectives of this study are to assess barangay-level tricycle operations based on a user perception approach concerning tricycle operators and drivers, and its users by aiming to describe the current condition of tricycle service in the study area; assess current state of tricycle operations in the area in terms of service quality (travel time, accessibility, safety, security, comfort, and price); and identify from those determinants highly influence user service satisfaction.
