Stakeholder Collaboration for Sustainable Iloilo-Batiano River System: Consultation Outcomes with Barangay Officials of Iloilo City

This paper documents the proceedings of a consultation titled "Stakeholder Collaboration for Sustainable Iloilo-Batiano River System," focusing on the critical role of grassroots leadership in environmental preservation. The study captures the outcomes of discussions with Barangay Officials of Iloilo City, identifying localized challenges such as solid waste management, siltation, illegal fishing, and the presence of informal settlements along the riverbanks. Key discussions center on the necessity of aligning community-level initiatives with city-wide environmental policies and enhancing the enforcement of local ordinances. By synthesizing perspectives from frontline public servants, the research advocates for a collaborative governance model that empowers barangay leaders as primary stewards of the river system. Ultimately, the proceedings emphasize that sustainable urban waterway management depends on the active participation, localized knowledge, and political will of community-level stakeholders.
