RAISING PSYCHOLOGICAL WELL-BEING FROM THE LENSES OF COMMUNITY EXTENSION SERVICES (CES) BENEFICIARIES

An educational institution may serve its corporate social responsibility through community extension programs. Its goal is to help the residents of the adopted community in all aspects of their lives. One of the most important is psychological well-being, as it is connected to overall wellness and well-being. This research aimed to investigate whether program satisfaction of the residents of the adopted community towards the extension programs predict their psychological well-being. It also sought to explain the specific psychological well-being needs of the participants. The researchers used a mixed-method research design that utilized thematic analysis and explanatory design. The participants of the study were seventy (70) residents of the University’s adopted community which is the Barangay Cuta and they were selected through purposive sampling. Self-made questionnaire was developed for measuring program satisfaction while Ryff’s well-being scale was adopted to measure psychological well-being. The results indicate that the respondents were very satisfied with the programs delivered by the institution, however, they have low psychological well-being. Qualitative analysis resulted in six themes that reflect the needs of the participants to gain psychological well being. The themes are: individual disposition, personal goals, compassion, self-awareness, love, and self-regulation. In addition, it was concluded that program satisfaction is not a predictor of the psychological well-being of the residents in the adopted community. Because of this, the researchers came up with a list of sample activities that could be included in the upcoming extension activities in order to target psychological well-being.
