This paper documents the proceedings of a forum titled "Peoples’ Alternative Approaches to Addressing Territorial Disputes in the South China Sea and Beyond." It explores non-state-centric and grassroots-led strategies for resolving maritime and territorial conflicts, specifically within the context of the West Philippine Sea and the broader South China Sea region. The study analyzes the socioeconomic impact of these disputes on marginalized sectors, particularly small-scale fisherfolk, and examines "people-to-people" diplomacy as a viable alternative to traditional geopolitical posturing. Key discussions center on the principles of demilitarization, the protection of shared marine resources, and the role of regional solidarity in fostering peace. By prioritizing the voices of affected communities, the proceedings advocate for a shift in discourse from nationalistic territorial claims toward collaborative, sustainable, and inclusive maritime governance.
