Research, programs, and policies aiming for gender equality have focused on women empowerment. Deprivation in women has become an equally important topic that seeks to address inequalities in health care, security, and the right to choose. This study offers a quantitative analysis of indicators for women empowerment (WEI) development and women deprivation (WDI) indices in the Philippines, utilizing National Demographic and Health Surveys (NDHS) data from 2003 to 2022. Further, this study adapts core methodologies and indicators from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (2020) and Akiyenmi et al. (2021), which respectively estimated WEI and WDI using Demographic and Health Survey data from several African countries. Using exploratory factor analysis to weigh indicators for estimating indices, results indicated an overall trend of improved women empowerment and reduced deprivation among women in the Philippines, despite some fluctuations. Moreover, in 2022, women empowerment and deprivation prevalence levels are, respectively, at their highest and lowest. The overall positive trend in women empowerment in the Philippines is promising, yet sustained progress requires ongoing monitoring and targeted interventions. Focused attention is necessary for specific issues causing fluctuations in deprivation in women, especially during times where prevalence is increased.
