This paper provides an objective analysis of the impact and implications of the slaughter ban on the carabao industry. The slaughter ban has been ineffective and served as source of welfare losses. The ban does not have a place in an environment where economic policies are liberalized and government interventions dismantled with the end view of promoting economic efficiency and social welfare. It also does not promote equity as it restricts the income potentials of farmers in raising carabaos, most of whom are small holders. It would be prudent for policymakers to abolish this regulatory measure which has outlived its usefulness.
