Tourism has become one of the fastest growing economic sectors in the world. Among the many tourism destinations in the country, a difficulty experienced by most visitors and local government unit is the access to these locations.Previous researches highlighted that tourism infrastructure plays a very critical role in tourism development. The national government addressed this need through the establishment of national plans and programs in the development of highly competitive and socially responsible tourism, thus, the Tourism Road Infrastructure Program (TRIP) was established. The main objective of the study focused on understanding what are the spatial and socio-economic impacts on local development that occurred with the improvement of the access road leading to Mt. Pulag, a project enrolled under the TRIP.This study focused on the before and after conditions of barangay Bashoy, centered mainly on the changes in social conditions, livelihood and income, LGU revenue, and land use. Household survey, key informant interviews, and transect walk were used to achieve the objectives of the study. The results of the research showed that the introduction of the tourism road project significantly improved the tourism activity in Mt. Pulag. This consequently led to the increase and diversification of tourism related livelihood sources, increase in household income, vehicle acquisition, and tourism fees collection. The study also underlined the dependence of the local population to the road section. Aside from providing improved tourist access, it also functions as the primary access to the area, an all-weather lifeline leading to health facilities, and link to trade and economic opportunities. Residents experienced a decrease in travel time in accessing basic social services along with the diversification of transport options.
