This research aims to evaluate the attitudes and information-cognitive factors affecting the behavior of Brgy. Tanza towards community-based climate change adaptation (CCA) efforts. Internal predictors of behavior are the central theme of psychological research on CCA planning. Psychology pursues to understand the decision of individuals to change their lifestyles and to develop pro-environmental behaviors.
The study aims to answer the following: (1) attitude of the residents of Brgy. Tanza towards the climate change adaptation efforts and community-based CCA efforts of their barangay; (2) evaluate the relationship between attitudes and behavior in terms of CCA efforts and the direction of their relationship; (3) identify the information-cognitive factors affecting behavior of Tanza residents with respect to climate change adaptation efforts; (4) determine the effects of information-cognitive factors on the behavior of the Tanza residents towards CCA; and (5) recommend development planning interventions to increase the participation of residents towards community-based CCA efforts. The research hypothesized that attitude can predict behavior, information-cognitive factors are important predictors of behavior, and analysis of attitudes and information-cognitive factors can serve as basis in developing planned interventions to increase participation.
Attitudes were measured by identifying the level of awareness, level of concern, and level of willingness of the residents while behavior was measured through attendance in capacity development, compliance with solid waste management program at home, attendance in mangrove planting, and attendance in river/coastal clean-ups.two hundred fifty-seven (257) household respondents were surveyed. Systemic random sampling was used in distributing the survey questionnaires.
