Empowering Barangay Health Workers Through the UpToDate Club: Bridging Knowledge Gaps in Rural Healthcare

This paper documents the proceedings of the 2024 UpToDate Club Meetings, an initiative aimed at empowering Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) in the Philippines by bridging knowledge gaps in rural healthcare. The study evaluates the impact of providing BHWs with access to clinical decision support tools and evidence-based medical resources to enhance their clinical competency. Key discussions center on the role of BHWs as frontline health counselors, the challenges of healthcare delivery in remote areas, and the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in improving community health outcomes. By fostering a continuous learning environment, the program seeks to strengthen the local health system and ensure that rural populations receive accurate and timely medical information. Ultimately, the proceedings advocate for the institutional support and digital empowerment of community health volunteers as a vital component of Universal Health Care.
