Climate Risk Insurance and Disaster Risk Management: 5 Years after Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines

The report analyzes mainly the micro level where the promotion of insurance for poor people is focused and where there is now an important development of MSMEs while recovery programs after Typhoon Haiyan were ongoing. To present a complete view of the Philippines’ preparedness for future disasters, the study describes other developments at the meso and macro levels without entering into many details. The study also revises the recommendations made in a previous study to insurance companies and microinsurance providers regarding, among others, recommendations, products, claims settlement, and reinsurance and introduces the concept of a Checklist as part of disaster preparedness.
