This thesis examines the importance of transport in attracting tourist to a Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte in the Philippines where the tourism sector is being developed. It was important to define the role of transport in the development of Pagudpud in order to guide the planning activities for the tourism industry. This study incorporated two research strategies – case study and surveys – tp accomplish the three primary objectives for the study: identify existing transport elements, identify elements important to tourists and assess relationship between the importance of the transport network for the market and the development of the area as a tourist destination. A review of secondary data, key informant reviews and direct observation were performed for the case study analysis. To gather market data, two types of structures questionnaires were distributed: intercept and online surveys. The results of the research concluded that the priority areas should be focused on the improvement of the roads and the development of the local transit options. Four priority recommendations were identified: improve roads leading to and within Pagudpud: improve transit connections between LAO and Pagudpud; add and improve existing amenities and services around terminals; and there is a need to conduct further research. It is important that these elements be addressed in order to achieve the municipality’s goal of becoming a wolrd class tourist destination.
