A Decomposition Analysis of Philippine Export and Import Performance, 1974-1982

Focusing on Philippine export and import performance during the critical years of 1974-1982, this study presents the preliminary results of a decomposition analysis made on the subject. Ballasa’s framework is used in estimating the effects of external shocks on the BOP brought about by huge trade deficit and mounting external debt and the corresponding policy responses made by the government.
