The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) will host the 11th Annual Public Policy Conference (APPC) on September 18, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM at New World Makati Hotel, Makati City, serving as the main highlight of the 23rd Development Policy Research Month (DPRM).
This year’s APPC, which carries the same theme as the 23rd DPRM, “Reimagining Governance in the Age of AI,” will convene policymakers, experts, researchers, and development stakeholders to examine how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping governance systems, policymaking, and the delivery of public services.
The whole-day discussions will focus on three critical sub-themes affecting many economies today: energy issues, the fight against corruption, and governing aging societies.
The Opening Plenary Session in the morning will set the stage by highlighting how AI, data analytics, and digital platforms can modernize government operations and services while ensuring the responsible use of emerging technologies.
In the afternoon, discussions will shift to more specific applications of AI through three thematic sessions. The first session, “Energy Issues and AI,” will examine how AI can enhance energy efficiency, support the integration of renewable energy, and balance sustainability with technological demands. The second session, “AI-Augmented Fight Against Corruption,” will focus on how AI tools can strengthen accountability, detect irregularities, and reinforce integrity in governance. The third session, “Governing Aging Societies in an Intelligent Era,” will explore how institutions can promote active aging, ensure equitable access to technology, and build resilient human capital amid global demographic shifts.
The conference will conclude with a Closing Plenary synthesizing the key insights and translating them into policy recommendations to guide governance in the age of AI.
