Circular Economies in Action: Localizing APEC's Vision in the Visayas

The Philippine APEC Study Center Network (PASCN) of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in collaboration with Silliman University, hosted a hybrid symposium titled "Circular Economies in Action: Localizing APEC's Vision in the Visayas". Scheduled on November 6, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at Silliman University in Dumaguete, Negros Oriental, and online via Zoom.

The symposium, aligning with APEC’s 2024 Circular Economy agenda, explores how the Visayas can lead in adopting sustainable practices, such as reducing waste and reusing resources, to support regional economic sectors like tourism and agriculture.

The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Betty Cernol McCann, President of Silliman University. Presentations will include Mr. Jovito Jose P. Katigbak from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas discussing circular economy adoption among women-led micro, small and medium enterprises, Dr. Eylla Laire M. Gutierrez of the Asian Institute of Management on the circular economy in the Philippines, and Dr. Enrique G. Oracion of Silliman University, who will share insights on zero-waste practices in local sari-sari stores.

This symposium is a platform for policymakers, academics, and local stakeholders to collaborate on sustainable development strategies for the Visayas.
