A Labor Market Analysis of S&T Human Resource Needs in the Philippines

This webinar presents the PIDS study titled “Future S&T Human Resource Requirements in the Philippines: A Labor Market Analysis” authored by PIDS Senior Research Fellow Jose Ramon Albert, Pulse Asia Research Director Ana Maria Tabunda, UP Professor Carlos Primo David, PIDS Research Fellow Kris Francisco, UP Assistant Professor Charlie Labina, PIDS Research Fellow Janet Cuenca, and PIDS Research Specialist Jana Flor Vizmanos. The study examined the prevailing supply and demand conditions, and patterns and recent trends on science and technology (S&T) human capital in the Philippines using secondary data from various data sources. The results showed that while S&T human resource constitutes only a small portion of the total workforce, and that occupations across S&T do not have uniform growth potentials in terms of employment, both the government and the private sector need to support most of S&T disciplines, especially in the wake of new tasks from emerging technologies of the fourth industrial revolution.
