The Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS), in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB), held a dissemination seminar featuring ADB’s History Book titled Asia’s Journey to Prosperity: Policy, Market, and Technology over 50 Years, on March 5, 2020, at the PIDS Conference Hall Quezon City. The book presents an overview of Asia’s growth and transformation in the past 50 years. It summarizes underlying factors that can explain this development performance, while highlighting the large variations across the region and time periods. It offers illustrative country cases and discusses key policy lessons that can be drawn from Asia’s experiences. In particular, the book focuses on the role of policy, markets, and technology in promoting structural transformation, human capital development, trade and investment, infrastructure, macroeconomic stability, poverty reduction, gender equality, environmental sustainability, development finance, and regional cooperation and integration.
